He has traveled with Campaigns for Christ and has done mission work in several foreign countries. His travels have included the Holy Land, Australia, South Africa and Hawaii.

Northern served with Magnolia Bible College for almost twenty years, fifteen of them as Academic Dean. After retiring from the school in 1995, he was asked to return in 2000 as Interim Dean until they could find a permanent placement for the office. He retired for the second time from the College in 2002 as Dean Emeritus.

Northern and his wife, Sue, have a home on Table Rock Lake at Shell Knob, MO where he works full time with the church. He is the author of several books including a text book on the life of Christ, entitled Grace All Sufficient. He writes a weekly article, Northern's Notes to Christians, and a monthly for the local newspaper. He has compiled material on texts in the Bible under the title of "Quick Commentary on Crucial Verses" many of which have appeared in the quarterly magazine "The Voice of Truth International."

A scholarship fund for young ministers has been established in Northern's name at Magnolia Bible College in Kosciusko, MS where donations can be sent for this purpose. Correspondence should be sent to:
