This in reference to the fact that many sermons and other things he thought were not effective later showed fruits in the most unexpected places. Paul told Timothy the same thing: "Preach the word IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON....." 3. If a farmer plows the field, plants the seed, and waters the sprouts, etc. did HE grow the plants? No, only GOD can grow plants. By the same token, if we as preachers, elders, deacons, and other church members preach the 'right' sermons, visit, invite, worship, organize, help those in need, advertise, have VBS, Gospel Meetings, etc. do WE grow the church? Again, NO, only God can grow the church. Be humbled that God has "counted us worthy" to serve Him, and remember to give Him the glory for it all. "I planted, Apollos watered, but GOD gave the increase...."
